The Murray State women’s tennis team dominated against Jacksonville State University, defeating the Gamecocks 5-2 at the Bennie Purcell Courts on Saturday, March 27.

The contending players of the doubles matches, seniors Sara Loncarevic and freshman Sarah Bureau, won 6-4. Sophomore Marit Kreugel and senior Stasya Sharapova won their doubles match with a score of 6-2.

“Marit and Stasya played some of the best doubles I have seen them play, and that was key to put pressure on Jacksonville State on the other two courts,” said Head Coach Jorge Caetano. “Our doubles were both down 4-1 and found a way to adapt to their opponents and fight back to give us the doubles point.”

In singles play, Sara Loncarevic won her singles match with both matches ending in 6-1 while freshman Sarah Bureau also won with scores against Jacksonville State, 6-3 and 6-0.

Freshman Gabrielle Geolier played a strong three sets of 2-6, 6-2 and 7-6 for her fourth straight victory in singles competitions.

The Racers will travel to Martin, Tennessee, to compete in a two-day tournament against the University of Tennessee at Martin on Friday, April 2, and end with a match against Southeast Missouri on Saturday, April 3.
