Due to the severe weather that impacted neighborhoods and businesses within the city of Murray on June 21-23, Mayor Rogers has declared a local state of emergency.

The city of Murray and Calloway County Office of Emergency Management are working together to assess the damage from the severe weather along with implementing cleanup and restoration efforts.

The state of emergency will aid in expediting the cleanup and restoration efforts along with the opportunity to apply for FEMA funds available to public entities for the reimbursement of expensive expenses incurred due to additional manpower and equipment utilization.

Street and Solid Waste Manager for the City of Murray, Ron Allbritten has announced the Street Department will begin a special brush pickup starting on Monday, July 1.

They will start north of Main Street and west of 12th Street and work clockwise through the city, you may visit www.murrayky.gov to see a map that will be updated showing the sections of brush pickup as they are completed.

Residents should review the instructions below to make sure their brush will be picked up during the special pickup time period.

  • This pickup is for brush (trees and shrub trimmings) only leaves and trash will not be picked up.
  • Tree and shrub trimmings must be stacked neatly in piles with cuttings no longer than six feet in length and or six inches in diameter. disposal of larger items (including vines root balls, stumps) will be the responsibility of the property owner.
  • tree and shrub pile should not be placed in the roadway on sidewalks within medians or in drainage areas.

Questions concerning the service may be directed to the Murray Sanitation Department by calling 270-762-0380.

Director of Planning Jeremy Buchanan recommends residents with damage severe enough to require a tree service to use caution when utilizing services with door-to-door solicitors that may not have the necessary insurance and licenses. Removal of debris should be part of a tree service agreement. To obtain information regarding businesses that are licensed to conduct tree cutting and trimming services, please contact 270-762-0330.
