A local sweet shop is getting a new name but will still have many of your favorite sweet treats.

Sherry White, owner of Bug and Bee’s Sweets and Treats, bought the shop when the previous owners moved back to California. White’s husband often calls her Bug and her twin Bee.

“I’ve been here since they opened,” White said. “I enjoy it I love to see the kids come in and they’re so happy.”

The sweet shop will be hosting a grand reopening on May 11. The radio station Froggy will be at the grand opening from noon until 2 p.m. and they will have a fun wheel for the kids.

“On the day of our grand opening we are going to bring out the big soft pretzels, nachos and we are attempting fountain drinks,” White said. The shop also sells a variety of ice cream flavors, candies and other sweet treats.

Caroline Howard, senior from St. Louis, Missouri, has visited the shop in the past with her roommate. It was the place where they really became friends.

“I like all of the local shops,” Howard said. “Sometimes you need something other than Dairy Queen.” She said it makes sense to continue keeping the shop running under new ownership and that there aren’t a lot of local places where she is from. This is part of what makes Murray stand out for her.

Bug and Bee’s also offer party packages perfect for birthdays or other events. They are also in the process of getting a projector screen that you can hook your laptop up to. This could add some fun to any future meetings you might have planned.

Bug and Bee’s will be honoring all Scoops and Sprinkles gift cards through the end of the year. Murray State students can also receive a 10% discount when they show their student ID.
