The restaurant Belew’s, a hotspot for tourists and locals in the summer, reopened yesterday.

Belew’s is an old-fashioned burger restaurant in Aurora, Kentucky. Customers order their meals at a walk-up window and enjoy their food at outdoor picnic tables.

Belew’s also offers curb service so customers can enjoy their food in their car if they prefer. The Belew’s carhops bring the food out on trays that attach to the customer’s car window.

The restaurant is owned by David and Jessica Norwood. The couple have owned the restaurant for the past eight years. The restaurant was originally established in 1951.

“I think the history and the nostalgia of the restaurant appeals to people,” David Norwood said. “It’s a unique place. I think that’s one reason why it draws people.”

David Norwood said the restaurant has a friendly and familial atmosphere.

Sophomore Kalea Anderson, a Murray resident, is going on her fourth year working at Belew’s. She started the job her junior year of high school and has been working there every summer since.

“It’s definitely been the hardest job I have ever had,” Anderson said. “Belew’s is always busy, so we all have to work really fast but really efficient. It’s all about teamwork.”

Anderson said her Belew’s coworkers make work fun and are like family to her. She said some of her best friends have come from working at Belew’s.

Belew’s is a seasonal restaurant and is only open in the summertime. The restaurant will close again on Labor Day, Sept. 2.

David Norwood said he and his wife appreciate the support of Murray State students and look forward to serving them in the future.
