Murray State relied on pitching in a series sweep when they beat Tennessee Tech University 1-0, and 5-0.

A battle of freshman pitchers was the storyline for the first game of the series with the Racers coming out on top 1-0.

Freshman Hannah James had an impressive outing for the Racers in the first game when she only gave up three hits and added three strikeouts on the day.

Freshman pitcher Alyssa Arden for the Golden Eagles had an equally impressive outing, only allowing two hits and adding seven strikeouts.

In the bottom of the seventh when senior catcher Madison Culver got the first hit of the game for the Racers. Freshman infielder Lindsey Carroll added the second hit of the game to load the bases, and an error from the TTU shortstop scored the only run, ending the game at 1-0.

Junior pitcher Taylor Makowsky was big for the Racers in the second game, only allowing five hits.

The Racers scored the only runs in the game when in the bottom of the first Culver singled out to left-center to score two, and in the bottom of the fifth sophomore Sierra Gilmore hit a two-RBI single. Gilmore was able to score on her single when the center fielder missed the ball and the ball rolled all the way to the fence.

The 1-0 and 5-0 victories put the Racers at 7-1 in conference play, giving them their best OVC start in program history.

Murray State will be back in action Tuesday April 9, at 4pm when they play against Austin Peay.
