Racers return with John Craft and Gladstein Invite

Friday, as some athletes competed at the Gladstein Invitational at Indiana University at the same time as other athletes went to Eastern Illinois to compete in the John Craft Invitational.

Bloomington:

Senior Tamdra Lawrence won the 60m dash with a time of 7.64 seconds, while teammate freshman Rachel Hagans finished third with a time of 7.801. Sophomore Antoinetta Avant rounded out the 60m dash for the Racers, finishing fourth with a time of 7.805.

The Racers also put two runners in the finals of the 60m hurdles, as Avant finished fifth with a time of 8.94 and freshman Dontavia Howard finished in sixth place with a time of 9.04.

In the 400m junior Norma Abdur-Rafia placed third with a time of 56.48 and D’Myia Thornton finished fifth with a time of 57.75 .

Junior Hilary McAdam finished eighth in the mile with a time of 5:15.23 and Ida Mutai finished eighth in the 5000m with a time of 18:38.57.

Junior Destiny Carey was the top Racer in the weight throw with a mark of 14.13m. Senior Rachel Gootee threw 13.80m and senior Christina Meinhard threw a 13.42m, both setting their own personal-best.

Charleston:

Sophomore Jessikha Ribeiro won the high jump with a mark of 1.65m with freshman Ashlyn Oren right behind her in second at 1.63m.

Oren took first in the long jump with a distance of 5.45m, while Rebeiro followed in second place at 5.26m.

Freshman Brooke Misukonis had the second-best Racer pole vault with a height of 3.60m, while senior Emily Heil, freshman Shannon Riley, freshman Jessie Kinder, and freshman Gabby Kennedy followed Misukonis on the leaderboard in the vault.

Junior Jewel Wagner stood out in the throws with a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 16.24m and a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 11.92m.

Freshman Hannah Johnson set two personal records in two events with a 9.11m shot and 9.04m mark in the weight throw.

On the track, freshman Jaysha Carter qualified for the finals in both the 60m and 60 hurdles, finishing second in the hurdles with a time of 9.78 and eighth in the 60m at 8.24. She also ran a personal best in the 400m with a time of 1:02.61.

Oren and Ribeiro also qualified for the 60 hurdles final, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively while Oren set a PR with a time of 9.79.

Freshman JaKayla McSwain and junior Jocelyn Payne each ran in the 200m and 400m, finishing right next to each other in both races as McSwain took fourth in the 200m and sixth in the 400m while Payne placed fifth and eighth in the two races.

Junior Katelyn Gilbert and freshman Morgan Vosler each ran personal bests in the 3000m with Gilbert running 11:00.34 and Vosler at 11:03.51.

The Racers will be back in action in two weeks at Southern Illinois in the Don DeNoon Invitational.
