Vanderbilt University’s women’s soccer team why they won the SEC regular season title when they beat Murray State 4-0 on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Freshman forward Haley Hopkins opened the scoring sheet just 13 minutes into the game when she received a perfect cross from sophomore forward Leila Azari that resulted in a score to make the game 1-0.

Hopkins then made a back-heeled pass to junior midfielder Grace Jackson in the 30th minute. Jackson rifled her shot past senior goalkeeper Alex Steigerwald to take the game to 2-0.

Freshman midfielder Reagan Kelly made her mark on the game in the 43rd minute when she found the side of the net to give the Commodores a 3-0 lead.

The Racers only had one shot on goal in the first half and had trouble getting past Vanderbilt’s aggressive midfield.

The Commodores had a more possessive style of play in the second half where they continued to control the ball, not giving Murray State many scoring opportunities.

Senior midfielder Brook Colangelo put the cherry on top for Vanderbilt when she scored in the 83rd minute to cap the game at 4-0.

The Racers finished their season with a 13-5-1 (7-3-0) record and an OVC title.
