Murray State rifle fired the second-highest score in the country this season to beat Jacksonville State University 4716-4656.

The Racers’ score fell short of the current highest team score by two points with a score of 4718, which was shot by the University of Kentucky a few weeks ago against Murray State. Racer Head Coach Alan Lollar spoke highly of his team, from the freshman to the seniors.

“The team did what they were supposed to do,” Lollar said. ”They shot to our standard and they were very consistent. When we do that we have a chance to be very good.”

Murray State senior Barbara Schläpfer tied a Murray State record in individual aggregate with 1188 and tied the school individual air rifle record shooting a 598.

“She did a great job,” Lollar said. “She went into this week with the No. 1 smallbore average in the country, No. 6 air rifle average and No. 2 aggregate average in the country.”

Racer freshman Anna Scheer shot a 590 in smallbore and freshman Emily Fitzgerald also shot a 574 in smallbore.

“This is an important stretch for us because we have been training and trying to raise our level and now we have to see if we can be consistent with it,” Lollar said.

Murray State will shoot-off against UT Martin tomorrow, but plans to rest some of its shooters.

“We are giving some folks the day off because of some injury type reasons, so we plan to rest some bodies that have been working hard.”

The Racers will shoot against the Skyhawks Sunday at 9 a.m. on Nov. 4 at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range.
