Murray State was handed its first loss of the season on the road at Ole Miss, losing 3-0.
The Racers saw a few chances in the early part of the first half from sophomore forward Rebecca Kubin, but were unable to score. Junior forward Miyah Watford was the same centerpiece of the Murray State offense as she has been through the first games of the season. Watford and Kubin saw two promising chances, but were unable to finish their opportunities.
The Rebels opened the scoring sheet with a solid strike from the outside of the box to the outer post from freshman midfielder Haleigh Stackpole off an assist from senior forward CeCe Kizer. Ole Miss controlled the ball for most of the remainder of the half
Early in the second half, Ole Miss sophomore forward and Murray native Channing Foster scored against her hometown team to extend their lead to 2-0.
The Rebels weren’t finished yet. Fifteen minutes later, Kizer dribbled past the Racers’ defense and slotted one behind senior Alex Steigerwald to make it a 3-0 match.
Ole Miss may have scored three goals, but this was no fault of Steigerwald. The goals were all well-placed shots by the Rebels.
The Racers look to bounce back in their next game against FAU at 3 p.m. on Friday, August 31, at Cutchin Field.
