The Murray State track and field team continued its productive season, setting numerous personal records at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia.

Head Coach Adam Kiesler was proud of his team for how they performed over the weekend.

“Overall this weekend the team as a whole took a step in the right direction,” Kiesler said. “There were numerous PRs and MSU top-ten performances.”

In the 200-meter, junior sprinter Daijah White set a new PR with a time of 24.95 seconds.

Sophomore sprinter Norma Abdur-Rafia finished fourteenth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.01 seconds.

In the 800-meter run, sophomore distance runner Hilary McAdam broke her previous PR by three seconds with a time of 2:10.93. Her new time puts McAdam at the third-fastest time in the OVC this season, and fourth overall in Murray State history.

“The highlight came from Hilary McAdam, who ran a personal best by over 3 seconds in the 800, which puts her fourth all-time at MSU and third in the OVC currently this year,” Kiesler said.

Junior hurdler Jabruena Brimlett placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, posting a time of 13.50 seconds. Brimlett also had a top-ten finish in the high jump, finishing sixth in the event with a mark of 5.59 meters.

Junior Pole Vaulter Emily Heil hit the 3.44-meter mark in the pole vault, breaking her PR in the event. This puts her in the top three in Racer history. Her mark in the pole vault puts her at sixth in the OVC standings for the event this year.

In the shot put, sophomore thrower Destiney Carey finished fourth in the event with a 13.91-meter mark. Her throw at the Georgia Tech Invitational beat her previous season best, which was 13.27 at the Austin Peay Invitational.

Kiesler was impressed with how Heil and Carey performed in their field events.

“Emily Heil in the pole vault and Destiny Carey in the shot put were amazing,” Kiesler said.

The Racers’ improvements throughout the season have not gone unnoticed by Kiesler, who believes that his team still possesses an untapped potential they have yet to unleash.

“We had good performances in every event group this weekend,” Kiesler said. “We have three weeks for everyone to be on the same page and there is no question that we will get there.”

The Racers’ next event is Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28 at the Memphis Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee.
