Dresden, Tenn., native Ronald “Popeye” Jones played for Murray State from 1989-1992 before being drafted by the Houston Rockets in the second round of the 1992 NBA draft.

After being named OVC Player of the Year in 1990 and 1991 as well as OVC Athlete of the Year in 1991 and 1992, he was taken as the 41st overall pick before playing professionall in Milan, Italy for one season.

Popeye’s No. 54 is retired and he was inducted into the Murray State Hall of Fame in 2007. He is currently an assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers.
