Racer rifle drops dual match

The No. 11 Murray State rifle team dropped a dual match over the weekend to top ranked West Virginia 4700-4628 in Morgantown.

The Racers’ score of 4628 ties for the third-best team aggregate this season. MSU was led by Tessa Howald’s score of 1161 at the match. Kelsey Emme also had a solid day shooting an 1160.

“Tessa and Kelsey were both at 1160 or better and that’s what we need,” said Head Coach Alan Lollar. “They both shot solid matches.”

In smallbore, Howald shot a team-high 575 in the discipline, while Emme was right behind with a score of 574. In air rifle, both shot scores of 586. Michael Burzynski shot a 583 in the discipline.

“Good solid team day that got us back to a place where we can train for the qualifier,” commented Lollar. We had four shooters in the 570’s in smallbore, which was good.”

“I’m looking forward to the qualifier weekend. Anything can happen. We improved our position a little this weekend and I think we will be ready.”

On Saturday the Racers will host an NCAA Qualifier at Pat Spurgin Rifle Range.
