Men’s golf finishes fourth at Austin Peay Intercollegiate

After finishing day one of the APSU Intercollegiate, the men’s golf squad finished fourth in Tuesday’s third and final round at the Links at Novadel Golf Club in Hopkinsville, Ky.

 The Racers finished the event with scores of 290-289-295=874 and placed fourth behind third place Belmont at 872 and winner APSU who won the 54-hole tournament at 860 over Lipscomb who had an 867.

 MSU’s Patrick Newcomb placed fifth in the field of 81 players with scores of 68-72-71=211. Newcomb led the tournament after the first round, where he shot a 68. Hunter York placed 11th with rounds of 73-74-70=217. Tyler Brown placed 17th with scores of 73-69-78=220, while Wade Thompson placed 51st after rounds of 76-77-76=229. Preston French had scores of 77-74-79=230 and finished 57th.

 MSU’s Jared Gosser played the event as an individual and placed 76th with rounds of 79-80-84=237.

 The Racers finished ahead of fifth place SIUE (875), Missouri State (886), APSU B (886), Tennessee Tech (887), Eastern Kentucky (887), Southern Illinois (888), UT Martin (889), Tennessee State (894), South Dakota (906) and Morehead State (919).

 MSU has one more event in the fall portion of the 2012-13 season (Nov. 5-6) when they play in the Arkansas State Red Wolves Classic at Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, Ala.
