Men’s golf leads Wasioto Winds Fall Kick-Off

The Murray State Racers grabbed the first round lead at the Wasioto Winds Fall Kick-Off in Pineville, Ky., with a 282 as they try to grab the championship of the 54-hole event after winning it in 2010.

 Newcomer Preston French led MSU with a 69 which was good for a spot in 3rd place, while Patrick Newcomb, who won the medalist honor here in 2010 was in sixth place with a 70. MSU’s Hunter Ford made it three Racers in the top-10 when he carded a 71 for a spot in eighth place. Wade Thompson’s 72 earned a spot in 14th place, while newcomer Jordan Smith was in 59th place after a 78.

 The Racers led second place UT Martin (286) by four shots. Lipscomb (289) was in third place, while Bellarmine (290), Cumberlands (292) and Northern Kentucky (295) rounded out the top six squads. Host Morehead State (297) held down seventh place, while Southern Illinois (299), Eastern Illinois (299), Transylvania (303) and Southern Indiana (303) made up the top 10. John A. Logan (308), Walters State (313) and Pikeville (324) rounded out the field.

 The Racers have two student-athletes playing the event as individuals including Tyler Brown who was in 40th place after a 76. Newcomer Duncan McCormick was in 48th place with a 77.
