As students begin to return to campus, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, Murray State Housing set up a move-in appointment scheduler which went live on Monday, July 27.
Students can schedule move-in appointments from Aug. 10 to Aug. 16 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Each resident is allotted a two-hour time slot to move in. Appointments can be made through the housing application link on students myGate accounts. Times are available on a first-come first-serve basis.
“Remember, you will be allowed to start moving in at the beginning of your time block and you will have until the end of your time block to complete your move-in,” according to the email. “For example, if you sign up for Tuesday from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. you will be allowed to start moving in at 10 a.m. and you must complete your move-in and have anyone assisting you out of the building by 12 p.m.”
Students who arrive more than an hour late or miss their appointment will need to contact the housing staff for assistance to reschedule.
When moving in, students are limited to two guests to assist with moving in and no additional helpers will be allowed or provided to ensure social distancing.
Residents and those helping will be required to wear a mask when entering the building unless they have a medical condition that prohibits them from doing so. Face shields will be available for check-out for those with medical conditions. The University’s face covering policy can be read here.
The housing office is also using online forms for the check-in process to reduce the amount of paper and signatures required at move-in. Before arriving on campus, students need to complete the online emergency contact form.
When checking in, students will receive their key, a new RacerCard ID and aRacer Safe and Healthy kit. Students are also told to bring any cleaning supplies they might need for move-in and for the rest of the semester.
Once students are finished moving in, their guests will be required to leave as phase one of visitation is in place. This phase prohibits guests from being checked into the residential halls after their move-in time slot has ended.
Many students have already applied for their move-in day and time. Some students are concerned about the time limit.
“I am satisfied with my move in appointment time, but I am worried about getting completely moved in two hours,” said Mollie Carter, sophomore from Bardstown, Kentucky.
