Flags lowered to honor late Supreme Court Justice

To honor the late retired U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice John Paul Stevens, President Trump proclaimed both American and state flags at public office buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Tuesday, July 23, 2019.

Justice Stevens served on the Court from December 1975 until his retirement in June 2010. He was also the second oldest serving justice in the history of the court and the third longest serving justice.

Stevens passed away on Tuesday, July 16 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after complications from a heart attack.

Stevens was laid in repose in the Great Hall of the Supreme Court on Monday, July 22 before his interment, following a private funeral service at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 23.
