With another month comes another set of Netflix releases, including a mix of films, TV shows and a healthy dose of original content from the streaming service. Though October allows the horror genre to shine, there are other options as well. Based on the full list found on Complex.com, here’s a look at a few of the new releases coming to Netflix this October.
Blade (Oct. 1)
Starting off this list is what many people consider to be the movie that brought forth the comeback of the superhero film. “Blade” was first released in 1998 during a time period where superhero movies were on a serious decline due to films like “Batman & Robin,” “Steel,” and “Spawn.” This movie managed to defy expectations and stand out from the crowd thanks to its intense action scenes, a more serious tone, and the undeniable gravitas of Wesley Snipes in the lead role of the vampire hunter Blade. For those curious to see the early beginnings of the status quo for superhero films nowadays, this is a nice time capsule to check out.
Gotham Season 4 (Oct. 1)
Speaking of superheroes, the new season of the Batman-origin story arrived on Netflix on October 1. Young Bruce Wayne steps closer to becoming the Dark Knight, while a mix of old and new villains wreak havoc among Gotham City. Highlights from this season include the terrifying Professor Pyg, Ra’s al Ghul, and the Proto-Joker: Jerome Valeska. Fans will definitely want to re-watch this season in preparation for the final season coming out next year.
Truth or Dare (Oct. 3)
While not the best horror film by any means, “Truth or Dare” is one of those films that is perfect for those looking for a movie that is so bad it’s good. This film is so unintelligent that it’s sure to get a laugh from almost anyone, whether from the ridiculous and uninspired plot or the over-the-top death scenes.
Marvel’s Daredevil Season 3 (Oct. 19)
After over two years, this Marvel Netflix show finally returns for another season. Having survived the events of “The Defenders,” Matt Murdock seems fully set on abandoning his civilian life and protecting the city of Hell’s Kitchen full-time as Daredevil. Meanwhile, Wilson Fisk has been released from prison and is bent on getting revenge against Murdock for ruining his life in the past. Fans can also look forward to the debut of one of Daredevil’s most popular comic book villains: Bullseye. Considering this season is based on the popular “Born Again” storyline from the comics, viewers can expect to see a darkly gripping story of Murdock at his lowest point, only to rise from the darkness and become the hero Hell’s Kitchen needs him to be.
