Imes appointed as judge executive

Staff Report

Calloway County has a new judge executive. Gov. Matt Bevin appointed Kenneth Churchill Imes of Murray Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, to the office on an interim basis.

Imes replaces Larry Elkins who retired on Sept. 30 and is running for state representative in the upcoming midterm election.

“If I work past that date and am elected state representative, I will not qualify for the retirement benefits under the current system rules,” Elkins wrote on the Calloway County Fiscal Court Facebook page.

Imes serves on the boards of both the Murray-Calloway County Economic Development Council and the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway Development Authority, in addition to being a member of the Murray Rotary Club and Kentucky Farm Bureau.

Imes is a local businessman, farmer and state representative. He has also served as a Kentucky Natural Resources Cabinet commissioner and deputy secretary, Department of Agriculture director and Calloway County magistrate.

“I have devoted all of my adult life to serving others, both as a funeral director and public servant in state and local government,” Imes said. “It is truly an honor and a privilege to continue that service to my fellow Calloway Countians as their Judge/Executive.”

Imes’ appointment is effective immediately, and he will serve until his position is filled in accordance with the results of the November 2018 midterm election. Imes is one of four candidates running for the office. Other candidates include James Gallimore, Vincent Costello and William Earl Marcum.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018.
