Another month has gone by, and with it comes a new wave of content to Netflix; whether it’s existing films, shows or original content from the streaming service. But which new movies and TV shows are the best? Here is a quick look at some of the most notable releases coming to Netflix this month.

Groundhog Day (Sept. 1)

This movie is one of the best releases of the month. The 1993 comedy which features Bill Murray as a weatherman doomed to live the same day over and over again provides a healthy amount of humor and heart. Fans of Murray’s filmography, and those looking for a smart and well-written comedy should give this film a watch.

King Kong (Sept. 1)

Another Sept. 1 release is the 2005 Peter Jackson-directed remake of “King Kong.” While some may argue that it doesn’t live up to the 1933 original, the film still works well enough as a standalone movie thanks to its likable cast and spectacular visuals. It is a very long film, however, clocking in at about three hours. For those who don’t mind that, it is well worth watching.

Unforgiven: (Sept. 1)

The Clint Eastwood directed drama tells the story of a retired gunslinger taking on one last job to stop a gang of criminals. This movie stands as one of the greatest westerns of all time. The film features an all-star cast including Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Gene Hackman and Richard Harris. For fans of westerns, “Unforgiven” is a must-watch.

Black Panther (Sept. 4)

This is perhaps the best Netflix release this month. The smash-hit Marvel Studios blockbuster received extremely positive reactions from audiences and critics when it was released in February, thanks to its engaging story and fantastic cast. Unfortunately, it was reported by the website, WhatsonNetflix.com that it would be the last Marvel Studios film to come to Netflix, most likely due to Disney ending their contract with the site in 2019 to start their own streaming service. With that said, there couldn’t be a better film for the MCU to go out on than this one.

Iron Fist (Sept. 7)

Another Marvel offering is the second season of “Iron Fist.” While the first season of the series was critically lambasted due to its boring plot, weak action scenes and bland lead actor, the character  Danny Rand was given a huge boost in personality and charisma in a season two episode of “Luke Cage” earlier this year. Also, fan-favorite comic book villain Typhoid Mary is set to appear in the upcoming season and will be portrayed by Alice Eve of “Star Trek: Into Darkness” fame. Even if it is not as good as some of the other Marvel Netflix offerings like “Daredevil” and “The Punisher,” hopefully the second season of “Iron Fist” is at least watchable.
