Murray State’s women’s golf team placed second on Saturday in the Jan Weaver Invitational at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Kentucky.
The Racers were deprived of their chance to capture a win on Saturday as the tournament was cut short due to snow. Central Arkansas took home first place after posting a team score of 584.
The Racers were led by senior Moa Folke, from Tranas, Sweden, on day one as she shot 67 and 78 for 145 and a spot in second place. Folke set a new first round record at the Jan Weaver Invitational with her 5-under-par performance on Friday. Junior Linette Holmslykke, from Vejle, Denmark, finished tied for fifth after 36 holes on Friday, posting consecutive 74s.
Murray State finished the morning round tied with Central Arkansas but were unable to keep up consistent play as they fell 13 shots off of the lead by the end of day one.
Head Coach Velvet Milkman said inconsistent play cost her team down the stretch.
“I don’t really think there was one thing,” Milkman said. “I just think we didn’t put it all together that round, missed some putts and missed some chips, at times they all played well it just didn’t click like it did in the first round.”
Milkman and team will be taking a normal approach as they gear up for the OVC tournament.
“I think what we do everyday will certainly prepare us for the golf course,” Milkman said. “We will focus on long putting, they have really big greens there so light putting will be something we will address.”
The Racers will compete for back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference championships on April 16 at The Shoals Golf Club in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
