Murray State’s women’s golf team continued play this week in the University of North Florida Collegiate at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club.

The Racers ended Monday, March 5, tied for third place with the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky, each posting scores of 586 after two rounds.

Tuesday morning saw a decline for much of the field as scores raised and Murray State quickly found themselves slipping down the leaderboard. Senior Moa Folke, from Tranas, Sweden, led the way for the Racers on day one, posting 73 and 71 for 114 for 10th place.

After posting a career-best round in the morning, senior Anna Moore paired scores of 69 and 74 for a first day total of 145 and a spot in 14th place. Last week’s co-champion, sophomore Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria from Sevilla, Spain, finished tied for 16th with a two-round score of 146.

Murray State failed to keep up with the rest of field in third round play on Tuesday, as all players experienced a decline on the leaderboard.

Folke ended the tournament with a final round score of 76, putting her 4-over-par and earning her 14th place. Moore and Puente Rodriguez de Austria shot similar third rounds and found themselves tied for 19th place finishing 6-above-par.

As a team, the Racers finished in sixth place for the tournament, dropping four spots from second on day one.

Head Coach Velvet Milkman said her team needs to make adjustments heading into next week’s affair at the Citrus Challenge.

“We need to work on adapting to new courses and adjusting to wind,” Milkman said. “Doing that early is important.”

Murray State’s women’s golf team will head to Sorrento, Florida on March 18-20 for the Citrus Challenge at Red Tail Golf Club.
