Austin Peay took the series after defeating the ‘Breds 6-4. This is the first time since 1992 the Governors have swept Murray State at home.

The ‘Breds had many opportunities to tie the game but could not collect.

Head Coach Rob McDonald said he thought the team should have done a better job earlier in the game, but was happy with how the players fought to the very end.

“We had the tying run on second base and we just couldn’t get him in,” he said. “The last inning wasn’t where we lost the game, it was earlier in the game when we didn’t do a better job on their starting pitcher.”

Both the Governors and the ‘Breds got on the scoreboard early. Each scored a run in the second inning respectively. Murray State’s run came from a group effort.

Senior Mike Kozlowski was walked to start the second inning. Junior Greg Guest advanced Kozlowski to second after grounded out to the pitcher. Next up was senior Noah Zipko whose RBI single to left field drove in Kozlowski.

Austin Peay would continue to put runs up on the board. Scoring two in the third, one in the forth and two in the sixth.

The ‘Breds tried to rally in several innings but could not over come the hitting deficit. They had many chances scoring a run in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings, however they could not put up two more runs to tie the game.

After struggling at bat on Friday, senior Ty Stetson went 3-2 with an RBI. Senior Paul Ritzheimer went 3-4 with a RBI and a run. Junior Brandon Eggenschwiler and Zipko also drove in a run.

Pitching struggled forcing McDonald pull in four pitchers from the bullpen. Starting pitcher, freshman Andrew Bramley was given the loss. He allowed four runs and gave up nine hits in 3.2 innings of play.

Next the ‘Breds will travel to Carbondale, Ill., Tuesday to take on the Salukis at 3 p.m. They will continue conference play as Murray State faces Eastern Illinois Friday at 3 p.m.
