Recital to dedicate new Steinway piano at Murray State

The Murray State department of music will present a recital on at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to dedicate a new Steinway piano that was recently purchased for Farrell Recital Hall. The concert will feature a variety of works performed by music students and artist faculty.

Chosen at the Steinway factory in New York in July 2012, the new instrument is a welcome addition to the music department’s current fleet of pianos and will allow students, faculty and guests to make greater use of Farrell Recital Hall for performances, lectures and rehearsals.

The new piano for Farrell Hall was funded through two gifts to the department of music. A lead gift from alumna Karen Jones-Squires and her husband, James Squires, was made in the fall of 2011.

A donation in the spring of 2012 from Dr. Charles Johnson and his wife, Marlene Rann Johnson, both Murray State graduates, completed the fundraising project.
