Sig Ep defeats Alpha Sigma Phi

Sigma Phi Epsilon took on Alpha Sigma Phi in intramural basketball Monday night. Sigma Phi Epsilon started the game with a 1-2 record, while Alpha Sigma Phi had a 2-1 record.

The game began at 9 p.m. with Sig Ep getting the tip and control of the ball. They scored almost immediately and was fouled in the process. After making two free throws, Sig Ep was up 4-0.

Alpha Sigma Phi got its first possession of the game, but Sig Ep quickly stole the ball back and scored again. It regained possession of the ball after its basket and was fouled. At the line, Sig Ep made its two shots, which brought the score to 8-0.

The ball finally went back to Alpha Sigma Phi. It got fouled on the play and made its two free throws for its first points of the game. However, Sig Ep took the ball right back and made two long 3-point shots in a row with 10 minutes left in the first half.

After a few more minutes of play, both teams continually missed their shots. Alpha Sigma Phi called a timeout with 6:46 left in the first half.

After the timeout, Sig Ep scored right away to increase its lead. Alpha Sigma Phi turned the ball over and allowed Sig Ep to score again. Just as Alpha Sigma Phi began to see hope after making two 3-point shots in a row, Sig Ep came right back and scored a 3-point shot of its own.

As the first half ended, Sig Ep was up 32-19. It dominated nearly the entire half and Alpha Sigma Phi missed a lot of key shots that could have shortened the gap.

Alpha Sigma Phi had possession of the ball to start the second half. Unfortunately, it missed its shot and allowed Sig Ep to make its shot and get fouled. With another basket and a free throw, Sig Ep increased its lead by four points.

Alpha Sigma Phi made a few shots and free throws and seemed to be on a role. However, every time it scored, Sig Ep continued to score as well. A timeout was called with 15:19 left in the second half.

After the timeout, Alpha Sigma Phi recuperated and began to score consistently. The team stole the ball from Sig Ep and scored immediately. Following that, Alpha Sigma Phi scored a long 3-point shot and another 2-point shot. The team continued to score points as time ran out.

As its streak continued, Alpha Sigma Phi made all of its free throws as well as a multiple other baskets to reduce Sig Ep’s lead. With 1:16 left in the first half, Sig Ep called a timeout. The score was 55-46.

After the timeout, Alpha Sigma Phi quickly scored a basket. Sig Ep got the ball and scored and got fouled. Sig Ep made one of its free throws. After that, the game came to an end. Alpha Sigma Phi could not hold on to its hot streak and Sig Ep came out victorious with a final score of 58-48.

Both Sig Ep and Alpha Sigma Phi now have records of 2-2.
