Howald wins Pepsi Athlete of the Week

Murray State freshman rifle athlete Tessa Howald has been named the Murray State Pepsi Athlete of the Week.

Howald helped lead Racer rifle to a second place finish at the OVC Championships over the weekend. Howald compiled scores of 555 in smallbore and 578 in air rifle at the competition. She was also named the OVC’s Rifle Freshman of the Year at the meet for her performance this season.

Howald has recorded scores of 584 in smallbore and 593 in air rifle this season. Her aggregate score of 1174 two weeks ago at the Withrow Open is the second-highest aggregate at Pat Spurgin Rifle Range all time.

In addition to being named freshman of the year, Howald also received All-OVC Air Rifle Second Team honors and was named to the All-Newcomer OVC Rifle Team.

Howald and the Racers will travel to Morgantown, W.V., this weekend to face-off with the Mountaineers of West Virginia.
