Pine Mountain State Resort Park hosts Hike the Highlands Weekend

Pine Mountain State Resort Park is hosting its annual Hike the Highlands Weekend, Jan. 11-13.

The event, now in its second year, will offer simultaneous hikes. Evening feature presentations on becoming lost (and found), hiking in bear country, hiking highlights of Cumberland Gap National Historical Park and hiking the Pine Mountain State Scenic Trail will also be offered.

Feature hikes this year will include an all-day, nine-mile round-trip trek along the Ewing Trail to White Rocks and an all-day, eight-mile round trip trek of Blanton Forest to include the upper and lower loops featuring Sand Cave and Knobby Rock.

Half-day treks varying in length from 1.5 to three miles will also be offered on Saturday and Sunday and will showcase destinations like Narrows Overlook, Chained Rock, and Laurel Gorge. An exciting underground hike of historic Gap Cave will also occur on Saturday.

Advanced registration is required.  The registration fee for non-package participation is $20 for adults, $10 for youths 13-17, and children 12 and under are free (fees are already included for those taking overnight packages).

Full package prices are $129 (single) and $174 (double) and include accommodation for two nights, two evening meals, an outdoor-themed bandana and admission to your choices of guided hikes and all evening programs. To register or make a reservation, phone the park’s Guest Services Desk at (800) 325-1712.
