Campus Security Authority Training

The Federal Jeanne Clery Act and the Kentucky Michael Minger Act require faculty, staff, and student employees who are considered “campus security authorities” to immediately report crimes, fires, and threats of fire to campus law enforcement. “Campus Security Authorities” are broadly defined as those persons holding positions with “significant responsibility for student and campus activities.” Campus Security Authorities are those who hold a position which has the authority and duty to take action and respond to particular issues on behalf of the University. The list here includes positions that have been identified as a Campus Security Authority by the University’s Legal Services and Public Safety & Emergency Management Departments. However, if your job responsibilities match the definition, we encourage you to also attend one of the following sessions which should last no more than an hour.

The Murray State Public Safety & Emergency Management Department will be conducting training for Campus Security Authorities during the month of September. Seminars will be held on Thursday, September 20, at 3:00 p.m. in the Curris Center Theatre, and on Wednesday, September 26, at 9:00 a.m. in the auditorium of Alexander Hall (AL240). An overview of both acts will be presented, as well as reporting responsibilities, procedures, and penalties for non-compliance.
