Racer Golf Takes Fourth At Chris Bannister Classic

The Murray State women’s golf team brought home a fourth place finish after three days of competition in the Chris Bannister Classic at Silver Lakes Golf Club in Glencoe, Ala.

The season opener for MSU saw the Racers post scores of 301-313-318=932 behind champion Texas State (879), second place Middle Tennessee (903) and third place Lamar (925).

The Racers finished ahead of fifth place and host, Jacksonville State (946), Belmont (963), Western Kentucky (967), Tennessee Tech (991), Lipscomb (993), and Northern Kentucky (1005).

MSU was on top of a group of four teams from the Ohio Valley Conference.

Delaney Howson was the best finisher for MSU in sixth place just three shots off the lead with scores of 74-75-73=222.

Alexandra Lennartsson finished ninth in the field of 61 players with scores of 72-76-81=229, while Alli Weaver took 20th place with rounds of 76-80-83=239. Abbi Stamper had scores of 80-82-83=245 and finished 30th with Sophie Hillier coming home in 33rd place with scores of 79-86-81=246.

MSU’s Gina Nuzzo finished 42nd as an individual while Ashlyn Bechtold placed 58th. Nuzzo had scores of 80-84-85=249 and Bechtold carded scores of 89-95-92=276.

Valdis Jonsdottir of Texas State and Jacksonville State’s Maya Parsons were co-medalist each finishing at 219.

The Racers’ next event is the Mississippi State Invitational (Sep. 10-12) at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.
