Jolie to star in ‘Maleficent’

Angelina Jolie is set to play one of Disney’s villains in “Maleficent,” a twist on “Sleeping Beauty.”

The movie will tell the back story of the evil enchantress from “Sleeping Beauty.”

The film will be directed by two-time Academy Award winner Robert Stromberg and is set to hit theaters March 14, 2014.

Facebook buys Instagram

Facebook bought out Instagram, a photo-taking app available for both the iPhone and Android, on Monday for $1 billion.

This is Facebook’s largest purchase yet.

The app, named Apple’s iPhone App of the Year in 2011, allows for photos to have an aged look to them or as if they were taken with a Polaroid camera.

Stones make their way back to the studio

Ronnie Wood, guitarist for the Rolling Stones, said Monday the band would be back in the studio later in April to start on their next album.

The band will soon celebrate its 50th anniversary.

“It’s like working out for the Olympics or something,” Wood said. “You’ve got to go into training. So we’re going to go into training.”

Cyndi Lauper to publish memoir

Atria Books announced Monday the award winning songstress has a memoir due out this fall.

Lauper’s book will cover everything from her difficult childhood to her fame in the 1980s.

Guns N’ Roses new to Hall of Fame

Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame spokesman Todd Mesek said Monday Green Day members, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool are set to induct Guns N’ Roses at Saturday’s ceremony.

The ceremony will take place at Cleveland’s Public Hall and will also induct the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys, Donovan, Laura Nyro and The Small Faces/TheFaces.

Manson fails to make parole

Mass murderer Charles Manson, 77, was denied parole Wednesday by a prision panel in California.

This was Manson’s 12th bid for freedom. He did not attend the hearing and will not be up for parole for another 15 years.
