Black Student Council: 2.2.12

The Black Student Council met for the first time Feb. 2, to discuss the council’s upcoming activities.

Constance Ashby, president of the council and senior from Louisville, Ky., led the meeting along with the executive council.

At the meeting were several students, Don Robertson, vice president of academic affairs, S.G. Carthall, director of African American student services, Paula Amols, Director of Dining Services and Racer Hospitality and Jeremiah Johnson, Student Government Association president.

Ashby announced several events to come during the semester.

Black Student Council Activity Week was announced and will be held Feb. 7-10 p.m.

On Feb. 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the council will have cake and punch on the second floor of the Curris Center. On Feb. 8, from 6 – 8 p.m., the council will play The Black Power Mixtape in the Curris Room Stables. On Feb. 9, at 5 p.m. another council meeting will be held in which Josh Jacobs, Chief of Staff, will address questions asked by the council. On Feb. 10, from 8 – 11 p.m. the council will be holding a Valentines Mixer in the Curris Center Large Ball Room, invitation required.

Another activity going on this semester is an event called Love & Basketball. The event will be held on April 19, at 6 p.m. in the Wellness Center and registration is required. Registration starts April 2 and lasts until the event. The council will also be having a movie night the week of Love & Basketball.

The meeting ended with a question and answers portion and was adjourned by Ashby.
