The Student Government Association held its first meeting of the spring semester at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Curris Center.

Morris White, director marketing and promotions, opened the meeting by explaining the new Racer basketball promotion 2,500 for 5.

The promotion will allow 2,500 tickets to be set back strictly for students. Students who show their current Racercard get into all home games for free.

White also encouraged students to join the Stampede, the official student cheering section.

“You are guaranteed a seat and a ticket for the remainder of the games,” White said. “It’s only $10 to join and you get to enter the CFSB Center 15 minutes before the doors open to the public.”

SGA President Jeremiah Johnson is a member of the Stampede and encouraged students to join and support the Racers. There are roughly 80 students in the Stampede.

Josh Jacobs, the president’s chief of staff, brought to the attention of the SGA the fact that the city of Murray has proposed to impose a requirement for all students who live or work in Murray to purchase a $50 city sticker.

Jacobs, Johnson and Mark Welch, director of community relations, are meeting with Bill Wells, the mayor of Murray, on Thursday in opposition of the stickers.

The meeting closed with Johnson encouraging students to attend the 75th Campus Lights production of Titanic at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday or at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Lovett Auditorium.
