KTC officials call on local police for floodwater help

Staff Report

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials asked Western Kentucky law enforcement agencies to step up enforcement at flood closure points on state highways.

Keith Todd, Transportation Cabinet district 1 media relations specialist, said motorists have continued to drive around road closed signs and through flooded roadways.

Motorists should be aware that they will be issued citations for ignoring road closures, he said.

“We’ve had several instances where people have driven off into floodwaters and required emergency rescue,” Todd said. “This unnecessarily puts our emergency response folks in hazardous situations.”

Additionally, Todd said driving on closed roadways can invalidate auto insurance policies.
