Flames blazed from a car in the parking lot in front of the Pizza Pro on Chestnut Street Wednesday evening.

The Murray Fire Department, Calloway County Fire and Rescue, along with the Murray Police Department responded to the fire, which occurred around 8 p.m.

Sean Kelly, a Murray Fire Department responding firefighter, said authorities did not yet know the cause of the fire nor where the car’s owner was.

“It might belong to a Murray State student who walked over on campus,” Kelly said.

East-bound traffic was detoured on Chestnut Street at Regents College until the fire was extinguished.

Zak Winchester, of Murray, said he was driving down Chestnut Street when he saw flames. He said he pulled over in the parking lot of the University Book and Bean to see what was going on.

“I heard the tires blow out, and saw the flames coming from the hood of the car,” Winchester said.

Murray firefighters pried the truck of the car open. Kelley said they wanted to make sure there was no fire in the there and that all of the flames were out.
