Murray State football players experienced an opportunity of a lifetime on Sept. 29, when the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner and star running back Herschel Walker spoke to the team.

Walker, a running back for the University of Georgia, was widely considered to be the best college football player of his day. A physical specimen blessed with abnormal strength and speed, the rusher often looked like a man among boys on the field.

He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999 and played for the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants in his career.

Walker encouraged the group for about 45 minutes before introducing himself to individuals of the team. He spoke of the value of every man doing his job and the necessity of staying positive and focused.
